My First Blog Post...Ever

My First Blog Post...Ever

I have begun this blog because in the last year of our lives, everything has changed.  The details are plenty and colourful, but they're not the point of this blog.  I have often considered (who hasn't) starting a blog.  I always chickened out before because because I wasn't wild about the idea of publishing my life on a forum for the world to see (those in the world who actually read it).  Recent events have however given me a platform to create a blog that's not all about me.

I have just started a small workshop (also called The Sandpaper Chronicles) focusing on furniture, design and decor. It's something I've always loved doing - buying old furniture and spending time imagining the best possible it.  The process of sanding it, fixing up holes and other brokenness, selecting the colours I think would work best, and applying all my efforts to create something beautiful.  So primarily, I have started this blog to showcase my efforts, however I have no doubt that it is impossible to write a blog (even focusing on furniture and decor) that does not somehow leak the juice of your personal life to it's readers.  I hope the personal stuff will be so well camouflaged that I won't even notice it's happening :)

My  husband Andrew (who is a genius artist whose work features below) and I came up with the name The Sandpaper Chronicles together. We loved that it encompasses the journey each piece of furniture undergoes before it comes to rest in someone's home.  I look forward to my own journey through The Sandpaper Chronicles, workshop and blog.  I confess, this past year I have felt like I was in a workshop, being sanded, scrubbed and reworked so the title of the workshop/blog is really the story of my life lately.

The painting above is called Golden Arrow.  It's a scene from the streets of Cape Town, near to where we live.  See more of Andrew's work at:

Since this is meant to be a blog about furniture, let me tell you a little about the first piece we bought.  It's very cute, not an antique or anything, but I knew as soon as I saw her that she had potential.  I wish now that I had some before pics to show you but alas...

These are pics of her still all in parts.

She has a smallish steel frame with pretty curves.  I painted it a beautiful french blue/grey.

Her top is made of simple wooden floor boards that have been put together.  The top needed a good sand down and I opted for some pretty detailing in the corners.  I attempted to have the detailing look a little worn for the authentic vintage look.

I am pretty sure I'll finish this little one off tomorrow.  I'll post the pics of the completed job then...and some
of the other pieces I'm working on.

Thanks for reading (or not), have a great evening!
